TO-35 Name Plates and Decals

Do some TO-35’s have side name plates and some have decals?

The first two versions of the TO-35, Light Gray/Metallic Green, and Bamboo Beige/Flint Metallic Gray have the metal side plates that read Ferguson 35. The side plates on the first version have a dark green background, and the second version have a red background. When they began producing Massey Ferguson tractors the TO-35 was painted Red/Flint Metallic Gray, and the side plates were replaced by decals saying Ferguson 35. When they started calling the tractor the MF-35 the decals said Massey Ferguson 35.

Metal side plates with a red background are available from many after market suppliers. If you need side plates with a green background you will either have to find good used ones or strip and refinish a pair of the ones with a red background. Decals for the later TO-35 and MF-35 are readily available from after market suppliers. After market suppliers also have a decals that look like the cast side plates but I think they look cheap.

Once you determine the serial number of a tractor you should be able to determine the original color scheme and which kind of marking it originally had on the sides of the hood.
