I will be happy to send you a copy of the original wring diagram for the TO-30 as well as a revised version for installing a Delco alternator, and converting the system to 12 volts. You may need to replace the original ignition switch if there is some question as to the reliability of the switch on your tractor. Replacement switches are available from numerous after-market suppliers.
The starter is operated by the gear shift operated switch which may or may not be faulty, or may just need adjustment. Replacement switches are available from numerous after-market suppliers as well. It is easy to replace, and easy to adjust. I will be happy to send you a copy of the instructions for adjusting the switch. The original switch is designed to prevent the tractor from being started while in gear. This is a safety feature that should not be bypassed.
I will not provide instructions to bypass the original switch because it eliminates a safety feature incorporated in the original design, and telling you how to bypass it could make me or FENA liable should you or someone else be injured because of that action
My recommendation is to check out the original wiring to make sure it is correct, check out the original switch to make sure it is working correctly, and check out the original starter switch to make sure it is working correctly.
I would also make sure the battery cables are correctly connected, and the ground side properly grounded.
