I bought an old set of MF discs and was wondering where to look on them for the model and serial number. The label on the back says Massey Ferguson (what’s left of it) and it has two handel on the front to adjust the disc angles.
The disc you describe is likely either a Massey Ferguson 22 or 25 disc. These came in 6′, 7′ and 8′ widths. Prior to the merger of Massey Harris and Ferguson the disc was the Ferguson A-BO-22 and A-BO-32. Immediately after the merger the disc was also sold as the Massey Harris 22 disc. The serial number plate is usually located on the upright mast for the top link. That plate will have the make, model, and serial number. The earliest versions of the disc have wood bearings. The next version had cast iron bearings, and the last of the Model 25 model had ball bearings. The Ferguson and MH and MF 22 discs have square axles while the MF-25 has round axles. The MF-25 axles have a large disc at one end of the axle with two holes, approximately 1/2″ in diameter. The other models have a cast iron cab at one end with the head of the square axle visible.
A wider version, the Massey Ferguson 68 came in 10′ and 12′ widths and has round axles.
If you can locate the casting numbers on the top of the bearing boxes I should be able to tell you which type of bearings you have. Wood bearings are still available for these discs, and it is possible to rebuild these discs using either later style or after-market bearing assemblies.
These are excellent discs, very well made and very handy to operate. Front wheel weights are nice to have when operating these discs.
